The Ego Approach

“Let us find you a new path towards a life of authentic fulfillment and Self-Actualization”

Why did I leave my career as a marriage & family therapist to pursue being a full time health & life coach?

For nearly 7 years as a marriage therapist I saw my clients once a week for 55 minutes for an indefinite amount of time, usually until they felt they had received enough healing to function in society. Every week we would talk about what had taken place in their life in between sessions, we would process it, reflect on what past inner conflicts it had activated, and explore different “copping” skills they could employ for the following week. Whether working at the detox center, at the outpatient center, or in private practice this basic modality of treating a client on a once a week basis, from a past-to-present standpoint was the commonplace and the basic standard of operation. It wasn’t until I opened my own private therapy practice that I began to notice cracks within the infrastructure of therapy. I began to notice certain underlying biases that I was unconsciously filtering my clients’ symptoms through. I was exposed to the grand influence of Big Pharma in the DSM which was my bible during my masters program which taught me how to diagnose people. I couldn’t tell you how or when it happened, but I stopped using my DSM, I stopped trying to what label my clients best fit under. I started to lean back to my foundational teachings in psychoanalysis as well as existential philosophy. This was a paradigm shift for this was when I started to see myself as a human first and clinician second. Instead of helping my clients cope with their anxiety, we started exploring things that my clients used to love doing before letting go in the name of “responsibility.” Instead of helping them become “normal and productive members of society” I helped them uncover what was truly important to them. Without knowing it, I had unconsciously already shifted to a coaching modality from my traditional talk therapy modality. I converted my therapy practice into a life coaching practice, dropped my license, and renamed it Ego Coach LLC.

What is The Ego Approach?

The Ego Approach was in part sculpted from my early foundational teachings in psychoanalysis and existential philosophy, as well as my additional training as a professional health and life coach accredited through the International Coaching Federation. Why so much emphasis on the ego? Simply put…I have found through my professional and personal experiences that the health of the ego is the key to everything. The ego is our primary lens of consciousness as human beings. The ego is the point of distinction between you and everything you see and don’t see. Regardless of a person's age, sex, gender, ethnicity, cultural identity, religion, or place of birth, every single one of them has had to navigate the psychic landscape of their ego while engaged in the human experience. The ego is not innately good or bad, it is a vantage point of consciousness. Every decision and behavior we engage in is a reflection on how our ego has adjusted to its environment and much work it has done towards unburdening itself from its previous conditioning. Self-Actualization is the process of the ego shedding its conditioning and aligning itself with its purpose which resides in what some call the “Higher Self.” How, then, is this approach carried out in the work?

The 90-Day Human Resilience Intensive Program

After years of undergoing the usually drawn out process of seeing clients once a week for an indefinite amount of time, I decided I wanted to do things more efficiently as a coach. I wanted to combine what I had learned from my years of a therapist practicing psychoanalysis along with my knowledge of health and wellness I had learned from training as a life coach. I decided to create the 90-Day Human Resilience Intensive Program, a comprehensive 3 month program which would have a clear intention, additional accountability, and predetermined end date. What makes this program unique is that it offers the directive, solution-based approach of a coach mixed with the psychodynamic, self-reflective approach of a therapist. Interesting fact, the reason why an estimated 98% of people who lose weight on diets regain most or all the weight back is because most programs offer quick “hacks” to induce quick results. This is not one of those programs. In the 90-Day Human Resilience Intensive Program we will look at the underlying unconscious beliefs that are blocking you from walking into the life you want to be living with your precious remaining time on Earth. If you are ready to step into your next chapter in style & with intention then check out the testimonies of a handful of my clients on the Testimonials page of this website. If you’re ready to experience a more self-actualized version of yourself give me a call to schedule a complimentary Vision Sculpting session where we will conduct a comprehensive assessment of where you’re at, where you want to be, what stands in your way, and how we will get you there.
